There are so many different things that must be learned and
mastered to be a successful Internet Marketer.
* Deciding what you want to do. Are you going to sell
products? What kind of products interest you? Will they be a
physical product or a digital product? Will you offer a service?
Services can range from Home Carpet Cleaners, Health Aide Services,
to almost any other service that interest
you.
* What about a website? Your website must be
designed to suit your niche. A niche is a specific target and you
must be an expert in your niche and know how to target a specific
group of potential customers that have an interest in your chosen
niche.
* How are you going to get people to see your new website?
The old saying ''Build it and they will come" doesn't apply to the
internet. You must be able to target only the specific prospect that
has an interest in what you are offering but then you need a way to
drive them to your website.
There are many other tasks related to the three areas listed
above so lets break each down and discuss just a few of these tasks.
I personally don't deal with the service industry so I'll focus
on sales and marketing. Do you want to sell digital products or
physical products?
* Digital products can consist of Information or Software
products and don't necessarily need to be a physical product. As you
know some of these can include ebooks and various software products
ranging from music downloads to games, and money making
opportunities.
* Physical products can include those we mentioned above to
anything you see around you. One of the drawbacks of a physical
product is you will need to maintain some kind of inventory. If your
product is a large product such as Computers and TV's you will need
space for storage. Then you have to handle shipping.
Digital products are my personal favorites. Every aspect of the
sale is taking place completely online. There's no shipping to worry
about because your product is delivered the instant payment is made.
This means nothing to get lost or damaged.
Once you decide what you will market, now you need to focus on
your website. Are you going to hire a web designer or do it
yourself?
There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Hiring a web
designer is a smart choice if you don't want to do it yourself and
have the funds. Website design can be a very expensive alternative
to doing it yourself. I have seen prices range from as low as $100
all the way into the thousands of dollars. My first website was
built by a website designer that was also a college student. I spent
around $300 for that site and it was a very basic website. My next
site was built by a website designing and hosting company many years
later and was as low as $150 and included a secure order page all
ready to take orders. Yeah, prices came down alot over the years as
more and more people got online.
After I learned a few things I decided to build all my other
websites myself. I suggest if you are low on funds or want to save
yourself some money, you should consider building your own website.
It really isn't that difficult especially if you use the right
program. The two most popular are Microsoft's FrontPage and
Dreamweaver. This site you are looking at was built by me using
Microsoft's FrontPage. It is the program I like the most and it's
easy enough that even I can use it. I know that anyone with just a
little computer knowledge and patience can also build a very
nice, functional website on there own. I can also be available to
assist you if you need it.
Now that you have your website built the very next thing you need
is a web host. There are a gazillion web hosting companies out there
and you will need to do some research on how to choose the right
one. Some things to consider are what you need for a host, for
example: The size of your site will determine the price of your
host. Also if you need a secure server so you can accept credit card
order. You also will want a control panel to make changes when you
need to and to track your visitors. You may want to know how many
people come to your site, how long they are there, how they found
you etc. A good host can provide all the information you would need.
Now that your site is built and on the World Wide Web what's
next? Customers! Yeah, now you need a way to get customers to your
site. There are many ways to get people to your site. You need to
keep in mind that you don't want just anybody to go to your site.
You need people that are interested in what you have to offer. If
someone clicks on your site and has no interest in your offer, they
will leave as fast as they arrived. Sometimes you may pay money to
get traffic to your site. You don't want to waste money on
unqualified visitors.
A word of caution. There are many programs out there that will
guarantee millions of visitors to your website. These companies
promise all these visitors for an unheard of ridiculously low price.
Beware! Most do nothing more than take your money. You may have
heard the phrase" The money is in the list." That is a true
statement, but how can you build this list when you are first
starting out.
Again, there are an unlimited amount of companies on the web that
claim they can sell you fresh, qualified, quality leads but you need
to be careful here too! Most of the time these leads consist of dead
email addresses and old names of people that may have signed up for
something so long ago they don't even remember signing up. With all
the new Spam regulations you must use caution. The last thing you
want is falsely being accused of spam. You may lose your Internet
Service Provider (ISP) because of it.
With a little research you will be able to find some very good
companies that can supply you with a list of leads. If you spend a
little time you will be able to pick out who to trust and who to
stay away from. Some things to look for are, how fresh is the list,
do they provide full name, email address, date and time each
lead requested more information. How about a phone number, mailing
address, ISP location and what kind of information these leads
signed up for. I require each of these fields before I will pay for
leads. Once you get going you will find many ways of lead
generation.
Keep in mind that this is a step by step process. Nothing here
needs to be done in a day or even a week for that matter. Just stay
focused and stick to your plan. If you stay committed you will
succeed. Don't listen to anyone that gives you negative comments
about not being able to work from home. They probably have no
idea what they are talking about anyway.
It takes time to build a Home Based Business. With the right
